Geetika suicide case: Kanda to surrender

New Delhi: Key accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, MDLR Chairman and ex-Haryana minister of state for Home Gopal Kanda will surrender in court on Monday, his brother Govind told mediapersons. His lawyer Kapil Sankhla, however, was quick to add that Kanda would move court on Monday and not surrender, as he was not absconding. "The question of surrendering doesn't arise as my client is not an absconder. It is being explored if he will appear in person," said Sankhla. He added that Kanda waswas "not appearing before the police becausethey've created a fear psychosis amongst all MDLR employees". "Kanda is collecting his documents and all the papers related to this case and is in touch with his lawyers. He just wants some time to get all the papers. There are glaring loopholes in the police's theory," he added. Gopal Kanda has been evading arrest ever since the news of Geetika Sharma's alleged suicide came to light. On Wednesday, the DelhiPolice confirmed that Kanda was absconding, while his colleague and co-accused in the case, Aruna Chadha was arrested later that evening. She is now in a two-day judicial custody. DCP P Karunakaran said,"We still haven't been able to find him. We are still carrying out searchesin Haryana." Meanwhile, on Friday, the Delhi Police questioned Kanda's relatives in connection with the case. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a court on Thursday. Also, the police raided Kanda's Sirsa residence for the second time on Thursday evening. Meanwhile, the post-mortem reports of the victim, a former employee of the Kanda-owned MDLR group, has been handed over to the police. The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the incident. Its Chairperson Mamata Sharma met Geetika's family on Thursday.
